Course overview
The BOER course is imperative for all Oil & Gas drilling crews working on land as it equips them with the necessary skills to effectively handle any emergency situation and ensure their safety.
In addition, it provides delegates with a comprehensive understanding of the specific emergency response issues and regimes that are relevant to onshore oil and gas operations.
This course covers both proactive and reactive responses for personnel in case of an onshore emergency, making it essential training for anyone involved in the industry.
What will I learn?
- 1. Emergency Response Actions
- i. Typical emergencies: fires, gas leaks, explosions, equipment malfunctions, spills, and severe weather.
- ii. Emergency response knowledge: alarm systems, evacuation procedures, first aid, firefighting, communication, and emergency equipment operation.
- iii. Actions during site alarm: cease activities, go to assembly points, follow instructions, avoid elevators, and wait for the all-clear before re-entry.
- 2. Practical
- i. Assembly procedures upon hearing a site alarm.
- 3. Firefighting and Self-Rescue (BOER)
- i. Common causes and characteristics of fires on onshore oil and gas facilities.
- ii. Firefighting techniques: applications, constraints, and hazards of addressing small fires.
- iii. Fire evaluation and decision-making for intervention.
- iv. Recognize the hazards of addressing a small fire
- v. Understand fire evaluation and decision-making for intervention
- 4. Practical
- i. Notifying others upon discovering a fire.
- ii. Utilizing handheld fire extinguishers effectively
- iii. Operating a fire hose reel.
- iv. Deploying a fire blanket.
- v. Self-rescue in low-visibility areas without respiratory protection.
- vi. Self-rescue in low-visibility areas with a smoke hood
- vii. Self-rescue with a smoke hood.
- vii. Group escape using escape sets in zero-visibility smoke situations.
- 5. Emergency First Aid Practical
- i. Activating the alarm.
- ii. The ABCs of immediate first aid: Airway, Breathing, Circulation
Requirements
- Minimum age of 18.
- Basic safety knowledge is beneficial.
- Good physical fitness for practical exercises.
- No prior experience required.
- Pre-course learning (if applicable).
- Employer support (for workplace training).
