Basic Training For Liquified Gas Tanker Cargo Operations

Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations is a mandatory STCW course designed for seafarers assigned to duties on liquefied gas tankers. As per IMO guidelines (STCW Regulation V/1-2 and Section A-V/1-2-1), this training provides essential knowledge and skills for the safe handling, transfer, and carriage of liquefied gas cargoes. The course covers the properties and hazards of liquefied gases, tanker construction, cargo containment systems, safety precautions, firefighting systems, pollution prevention, emergency procedures, and relevant international regulations. It combines classroom theory with practical training, enabling participants to understand cargo operations and respond to emergencies effectively. Upon successful completion, participants will be able to demonstrate competence in basic gas tanker safety procedures and fulfill the minimum training requirements for serving on board gas tankers. This certification is crucial for ensuring safety at sea and protecting the marine environment during gas tanker operations.

Course overview

Basic Training for Liquefied Gas Tanker Cargo Operations

This training program is designed in accordance with the standards set by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) under the STCW Convention, specifically as per Regulation V/1-2 and Section A-V/1-2, paragraph 1 of the STCW Code. It is aimed at seafarers who are or will be assigned specific duties and responsibilities related to cargo and cargo equipment on liquefied gas tankers.

The course provides essential knowledge and practical skills necessary for safe and efficient operations aboard liquefied gas tankers. These vessels transport highly flammable, toxic, and low-temperature cargoes such as LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas), LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas), and other pressurized or refrigerated gases. Understanding the risks and handling procedures is vital for personal safety, environmental protection, and operational integrity.

The training covers a wide range of topics, including the properties and hazards of liquefied gases, cargo containment systems, cargo handling systems and procedures, emergency procedures, fire prevention and control specific to liquefied gas tankers, and safety equipment usage. It also emphasizes pollution prevention, ship stability during cargo operations, and first aid in case of gas exposure.

Participants will be introduced to safety protocols, risk assessment procedures, and the importance of strict adherence to international regulations and company-specific safety management systems.

Upon successful completion of the course and assessment, candidates will be awarded a certificate of proficiency as required under the STCW Convention, enabling them to serve on board liquefied gas tankers in operational roles.

This training is an essential step toward ensuring crew competency, enhancing safety on board, and maintaining international standards in liquefied gas tanker operations.
