What will I learn?

  • 1. Describe basic drilling concepts, well components, and different well types.
  • 2. Explain the importance of drilling in the oil and gas production process and its economic impact
  • 3. Identify safety basics specific to the offshore oil and gas industry, including key standards and protocols.
  • 4. Review major accident types and understand the role of Quality, Health, Safety, and Environment (QHSE) protocols, along with training like BOSIET, HUET, and FOET.
  • 5. Recognize fire safety principles, proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and manage risks associated with H₂S and hydrocarbons.
  • 6. Explain basic petroleum geology, types of oilfield fluids, rock types, traps, and unconventional resources like shale and tight oil and gas.
  • 7. Identify exploration techniques such as magnetometry, gravimetry, seismic methods, and the role of exploratory and appraisal drilling.
  • 8. Describe types of offshore drilling rigs and equipment, including their components and functions.
  • 9. Differentiate between fixed and floating platforms, mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs), FPSOs, semi-submersibles (SS), and remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs).
  • 10. Explain blowout prevention (BOP) systems and the role of motion compensation in offshore drilling.
  • 11. Describe the processes involved in drilling and completing offshore wells and the basics of formation damage.
  • 12. Identify the roles of drilling fluids, casing, cementing, and formation testing in well construction and stability.
Requirements
  • No formal education requirements, but a basic understanding of the industry is beneficial.
  • Typically, participants must be 18 years or older.
  • Good physical health to handle the physical demands of drilling operations.
  • Basic safety training (e.g., BOSIET, HUET) or related certifications are recommended.
  • Interest in Drilling Operations: A keen interest in offshore drilling and rig operations.
  • While not mandatory, prior experience in the oil and gas industry or similar offshore roles is advantageous.
  • Familiarity with working in offshore or industrial environments is helpful.
