What will I learn?
- 1. Understand the roles and responsibilities of an FRC Coxswain in ERRV operations.
- 2. Recognize and mitigate the effects of Whole Body Vibration on the FRC crew.
- 3. Apply the Basic Rules of the Road (IRPCS) for safe navigation.
- 4. Conduct rescue operations from liferafts, helicopters, and other systems to the FRC.
- 5. Identify hazards and perform risk assessments when accessing installations in emergencies.
- 6. Use and deactivate personal and emergency locator beacons effectively.
- 7. Operate direction-finding equipment to locate casualties.
- 8. Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and facilitation skills.
- 9. Perform pre-launch, re-launch, and engine start checks on the FRC.
- 10. Safely handle and maneuver jet and outboard FRCs in confined spaces and open waters.
- 11. Respond appropriately during and after a capsize, including righting the vessel.
- 12. Execute basic SAR techniques for casualty location and assessment.
- 13. Recover casualties using safe approaches and direct the crew during operations.
- 14. Tow vessels of similar size to the FRC when needed.
- 15. Maintain effective communication throughout FRC operations.
- 20. Utilize emergency equipment as required during rescue missions.
- To enroll in the Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain course, candidates must hold a valid ERRV Crew Fast Rescue Craft Boatman Certificate and have completed at least three months of sea service as an FRC boatman.
