This extensive course will be conducted in line with the standards of IMO and STCW Code, where you get deep insight into enhancing your skills in fast deployment rescue equipment, navigation, and recovery.

You will learn how to communicate effectively in order to further rescue operations, and also how to conduct an effective risk assessment in preparation for real incidents. Build your competency while learning how to lead and coordinate sea rescue missions by addressing compliance challenges coupled with enhanced command ability.

What will I learn?

  • 1. Understand the roles and responsibilities of an FRC Coxswain in ERRV operations.
  • 2. Recognize and mitigate the effects of Whole Body Vibration on the FRC crew.
  • 3. Apply the Basic Rules of the Road (IRPCS) for safe navigation.
  • 4. Conduct rescue operations from liferafts, helicopters, and other systems to the FRC.
  • 5. Identify hazards and perform risk assessments when accessing installations in emergencies.
  • 6. Use and deactivate personal and emergency locator beacons effectively.
  • 7. Operate direction-finding equipment to locate casualties.
  • 8. Demonstrate leadership, teamwork, and facilitation skills.
  • 9. Perform pre-launch, re-launch, and engine start checks on the FRC.
  • 10. Safely handle and maneuver jet and outboard FRCs in confined spaces and open waters.
  • 11. Respond appropriately during and after a capsize, including righting the vessel.
  • 12. Execute basic SAR techniques for casualty location and assessment.
  • 13. Recover casualties using safe approaches and direct the crew during operations.
  • 14. Tow vessels of similar size to the FRC when needed.
  • 15. Maintain effective communication throughout FRC operations.
  • 20. Utilize emergency equipment as required during rescue missions.
Requirements
  • To enroll in the Fast Rescue Craft Coxswain course, candidates must hold a valid ERRV Crew Fast Rescue Craft Boatman Certificate and have completed at least three months of sea service as an FRC boatman.
